don't know if it's a fair comparison, i think it strikes some similarity with our local basketball team: the Los Angeles Lakers. we were so used to winning the NBA title in the past few years (pre 2010) anything short of a Larry O'Brien Trophy is a failure.
What Klinsmann & Löw did to the next generation of German football, in my humble opinion, are freaking incredible. From my past games, i knew the team were very good a probing the opponents, efficiently completed the passes, then use aerial superiority to send it home. you guys have a very sound system to execute, which produced a very consistent results in the World Cup matches. This and the last German World Cup Squad not only inherited the tradition of the past, but also developed something new as well, a knack to exploit opposing teams' weakness. and if the weakness isn't there, the team will use speed to create holes between the defense, or to use it to throw the opposing players out of position. if i remebered this correctly, you guys were five-times runner up, had it not for the tough breaks, there should be more than three stars on your trikot (is that now you spell it?) right now. i think some countries would love to have that kind of consistency on their national team.

oh, it a lazy way for us sports junkies to say "Defense."
you were so right about both the Portugal and Spanish teams, they weren't ready to play and it really showed. especially team Portugal, it feels like a "one trick pony" team. the sad thing is, that pony isn't very good at what he does when his national team needed him the most.
the Brasilian team's defense looks vulnerable at times, as it demonstrated in the game against Chile. they really rely on their man Neymar, as the Argentinian team to their Messi.
as for this year's German squad, they have more than one guy capable putting the hurts on the net. i think what seperates you guys from the rest of the packs, are the "set-up guys." when the German players are within the box, they patiently set up the ball for the next guy to attack, i rarely see any boneheaded shot that has no chance to graze the poll. once the opponent think they have safely blocked the first shot, boom, here comes the second, then the third. i don't think any goalie can block waves of shot, second chance shot kills
not sure if it's entirely related, i think this is where Klinsmann's youth movement and football philosophy start to take hold and blossom in this year's world cup. just my 2 cents.
i still worry about the team's defense in the back field....
