Italia Victor My Early Thoughts
With that having been said, I do not like it.
Full disclosure I have only beaten the first Three missions so This is NOT about the entire Mod, (these are just my early thoughts)
I fully understand that in 1935 the Italians were very poorly equipped and trained and led by Poorly trained Officers. (They were that way in 1939 as well)
But the Ethiopians were even in Worse shape from a military standpoint. As were the Spanish Republic.
I began the game on Colonel difficulty (which I always do when trying out Mods) but even on Colonel difficulty, I found the game to be imbalanced.
In order to make what I am about to explain clear, I would like to compare everything to the Germans.
Let's say That the German Equipment was a 10/10, Soldiers were a 10/10, and their officers were a 10/10. (I am only saying this so that I can compare where the Italians would be *COMPARED TO THE GERMANS*
The Italians would be like a 6/10 - 6/10 - 6/10
But the Ethiopians would have been more like a 4/10 - 4/10 - 4/10
and the Spanish Republic would be more like a 5/10 - 5/10 -5/10
So that first Mission should have been more like all of my Italian Units being stacks of 10 and the Ethiopians being stacks of 6 (to represent their inferiority to the Italians) (From a military standpoint) and in the second Mission both the Nationalist Spain and Republican Spain should have been stacks of 8 while the Italians would be stacks of 10 to show just how disorganized ALL of Spain was at that time. (keep in mind they were in the middle of a Civil War and thus their entire military got split in half and there were pockets of Republican forces AND Nationalist Spain spread out all over the country. So being able to be organized and being able to move troops over large areas was complicated since you never really knew which side the civilians in certain areas supported.
In the Main Game and the GC's The game starts off easy because historically the Polish and Belgiums were really outclassed by the Germans and their "Blitzkrieg Tactics" and thus the game is really fun (even on Field Marshal Difficulty). You can use those early missions to build up a little bit of Prestige for the harder missions ahead.
But this game starts you off with almost Zero Prestige and facing Enemies that are historically stronger than they should be.
I understand some people really want Mods to be REALLY TOUGH. But making a Mod really tough can take away a lot of the Fun of playing a new mod.
I personally feel that the first few missions (since historically Ethiopia and Republic Spain were poorly led, trained/equipped, even more so than the Italians) Should be made much easier in order to allow the player of the Mod to build up a bit of Prestige for when things really start to get tough.
I LOVE that this Mod was made and that people took the time to make all of the PNG of the units and create new units, I just think that Ethiopia and Republica Spain should not have units of 10 which are equal to that of the 10 stacks of Italian Units.
I do not feel that is Historically accurate and makes the Mod Too Hard right out of the gate. I will continue playing the Mod, but Things should start off somewhat easy and progressively get harder, NOT start off Hard and then just get Harder, (even if that is how things were for Italy throughout the War) Sometimes it is better to sacrifice a little historical Accuracy for Fun and game balance.
